About Us
A young man started an organisation which was dedicated to helping underprivileged children across India. This 25 year old man - Mr. Rippan Kapur, started CRY - Child Relief and You with 6 friends in 1979. (Note: In April 2006, CRY, changed its name to Child Rights and You.)
Child Rights and You
The organisation works for the rights of Indian children who are deprived of their fundamental rights - children who go to work instead of going to school every day, who die each year before they celebrate their first birthday and those who go to bed each night hungry, hopeless and angry.
CRY believes
CRY believes, really believes, that every child, no matter what race, colour, creed or religion, is truly equal. CRY does not run schools, orphanages or dispensaries. Instead, CRY supports and helps Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in villages and slums across India. These NGOs work directly with children, their parents, families and communities to make them aware of their rights, help them earn a living, or restore their rights in other ways.
The benefit is that as the condition of the family and community improves, the children too benefit, in a lasting and truly effective way.
The Youth team
We are the team in CRY that works directly with children, teachers and schools to try and understand the various things that are important to children. We are also interested in ways in which the environment both changes, and is changed by, children. We think that children can be and must be our partners in believing and ensuring that all children have rights- no matter who they are.
We believe that adults must share the responsibility for partnering with children in order to make the world a better and safer place.
