Chatting about Childhood

If you were to look up the dictionary for 'childhood' these are some of the things you might come up with:

  • The time of a person's life when they are a child
  • The state of a child between infancy and adolescence
  • A child (plural: children) is a young human
  • The period of life of the human young generally considered to extend from infancy to puberty

Now, this is all very well. But it doesn't really TELL me anything about childhood!

So here is what I think childhood is: it's about cricket on the street with all the boys and girls in my colony. It's about wanting to go to school even on a rainy day. And then again, never wanting to see my teacher's face for the rest of my life. It's about having to do work in the house and grumbling about it. And about fighting with my brother and sister. And about wanting to have what my friend has and being told 'no' by my mother. And about going to my grandmother's house for the holidays. And howling my eyes out when the holidays were over.

Childhood for me is all this and so much more!

What do you think childhood is about? Write in and let me know!
